How to sponsor an athlete on race day
Updated
Sponsoring an athlete on race day means paying to have your logo on a real athlete at one race, as a temporary tattoo or a print on their kit. On SponsBody you choose a spot on the athlete's 3D model, upload your logo and pay once by card. Another brand can take the spot over by paying 2× the current price until bidding closes 7 days before the race, and if that happens you're refunded, minus card processing fees.
This guide walks through every step as SponsBody works today, from our code and our terms. One payment buys one spot on one athlete for one race, with no retainer.
Before you start
- Your logo as a PNG, SVG or JPG, and the right to use it.
- A card for the payment, which Stripe takes on its own checkout page.
- An email address the athlete can reach you on to arrange the print.
Step by step
Step 1: Find an athlete
Athletes share a link to their SponsBody page. It shows their race, their 3D model, the spots they sell and a countdown to the close of bidding. Check the Verified badges: verified numbers come from the athlete's connected social accounts, with when they were last updated. Accounts that aren't connected show no numbers.
Step 2: Pick a spot
Open a spot on the model. An open spot shows its starting price. A spot another brand holds shows the current sponsor, the price they paid, the spot's history and the takeover price, which is 2× the current price.
Step 3: Upload your logo
Upload your logo as a PNG, SVG or JPG. It is sized and placed inside the spot automatically and stays locked to it, so you see it on the athlete before you pay.
Step 4: Add your details and pay
Enter your company name, your website, a contact email and an optional message, then pay the price shown on Stripe's checkout page. Prices are in euros or US dollars, as the athlete's page shows, and Stripe sends you a receipt.
Step 5: Watch your logo go live
Your logo appears on the athlete's page as soon as the payment goes through. Your company name, logo, website and the amount you paid are public on the page and in its activity feed.
Step 6: Hold the spot until bidding closes
Until bidding closes, another brand can take your spot by paying 2× the current price. If that happens, we refund your payment in full, minus card processing fees, to the card you paid with, and you can take the spot back the same way. Bidding closes 7 days before the race at 20:00 UTC. After that, the spot is yours.
Step 7: Agree the print with the athlete
The athlete sees your contact email so they can arrange the print of your logo, as a temporary tattoo or a kit print, as their page says.
Step 8: Get the race-day content
The athlete wears your logo at the race, where and as their page shows, shares race-day photos or videos that show it, and mentions you on their social channels. If they don't race, or race without your logo, you get a full refund.
What the athlete commits to
Athletes accept our terms when they create an account. They wear every logo they've sold on race day, where and as their page shows, share race-day photos or videos that show each sponsor's logo, and mention their sponsors on their social channels. If they can't race or can't wear a logo, they tell us, and the affected sponsors are refunded. Athletes are paid only after the race, once their race-day photos are posted.
Questions brands ask
How much does it cost?
The price on the spot: the athlete's opening price for an open spot, or 2× the current price to take over a spot another brand holds. It's a one-off card payment in euros or US dollars, as the athlete's page shows.
What happens if another brand outbids me?
We refund your payment in full, minus card processing fees, to the card you paid with. Until bidding closes you can take the spot back by paying the new takeover price.
What do I get for my money?
Your logo on the athlete at the race, where and as shown on their page, plus race-day photos or videos and mentions on the athlete's social channels. We don't promise any particular reach, result or race performance.
Which logos aren't allowed?
You must own your logo or have the right to use it. Logos must not break the law or infringe anyone's rights; be hateful, harassing, violent, sexual or discriminatory; promote tobacco or nicotine products, weapons, illegal drugs or gambling; or be false or misleading. We or the athlete may refuse a logo that breaks our terms or the race's rules, and you are then refunded, minus card processing fees.
What if the athlete doesn't race?
If the athlete doesn't race, or races without your logo, you get a full refund.
Is SponsBody part of HYROX?
No. SponsBody is not affiliated with HYROX or any other race organiser. Each athlete is responsible for checking that their event allows sponsor logos.
